Verbal Consent Scripts

The scripts below are the verbatim, automated announcements played to every caller before any text message is sent by the Boomerang Texts missed-call follow-up service. All messaging is consumer-initiated: a text is only ever sent to a phone number that has first placed a call to the service. No number is messaged without the consumer initiating that inbound call, and after-hours callers receive no text unless they affirmatively press 1 after hearing the disclosure.

Where a script reads [Business Name], the system automatically inserts the name of the specific business the consumer called.

Production numbers — missed-call follow-up service

Business hours. When a call to a participating business goes unanswered, the caller hears the following before the text is sent:

Spoken to caller — business hours "Thanks for calling [Business Name]. Sorry we missed you. We'll text you shortly so we can help. You may receive a text message, and message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP to opt out at any time."

After the disclosure, callers hear: "Or stay on the line to leave us a message after the tone." and may leave a voicemail in addition to receiving the text.

After hours. Outside the 8:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. local texting window, no text is sent unless the caller presses 1 after hearing this disclosure. The keypress is the caller's affirmative consent:

Spoken to caller — after hours (press-1 opt-in) "Thanks for calling [Business Name]. Sorry we missed you. Press 1 and we'll text you shortly so we can help. You may receive a text message, and message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP to opt out."

Callers who do not press 1 are never texted. They then hear: "Or stay on the line to leave us a message after the tone." and may simply leave a voicemail.

Demonstration line

The demo line lets a prospective customer experience the service by dialing it directly. Every caller hears the following before the demo text is sent:

Spoken to caller — demo line "Thanks for calling the Boomerang Texts demo line. We'll text you right now so you can see how it works. You may receive a text message, and message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP to opt out."

After hours, the demo line sends no text unless the caller presses 1:

Spoken to caller — demo line, after hours (press-1 opt-in) "Thanks for calling the Boomerang Texts demo line. It's after standard texting hours right now, but if you'd like the demo text anyway, press 1. You may receive a text message, and message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP to opt out."

Opt-out and help handling

Every outbound message includes STOP opt-out instructions. Replying STOP immediately and permanently halts messages to that number (handled at the carrier-messaging level); replying HELP returns support information including a contact email. Callers who have previously opted out are never texted again — if they call back, they are routed to voicemail instead.
